At my school the early action acceptance rate is 45% while the regular application acceptance rate is 14% even though the average student in both application types had comparable gpa’s and sat’s. So I want to apply early to Umich but I’m scared that my senior year grades won’t show. My 9th and 10th grade gpa is awful(around a 3) but in 11th grade I had 4 AP’s and only one B. Senior year I have 3 AP’s and one college class and no all A’s. I want my first semester of senior year to be shown to Umich because it’ll boost my gpa. Also on a side note I’m retaking a right now online to replace my D from from 10th grade first semester but since that class won’t finish until November 10th I don’t know if that’ll show up.
Honestly, your UW 3.25 GPA (despite your solid test scores) make you an extremely unlikely admit Early or RD for UMich, even if you’re in state. Even a 7th semester boost (if you apply RD) won’t get you much uptick. You should spk w/your GC since it’s clear your school sends many applications to Ann Arbor.
I think you’re setting yourself up for grave disappointment here.
I’m replacing one of my scores from 10th grade by taking the class of-campus, with that and assuming they dont calculate gpa with freshman year included(do they?) and with the addition of my straight a’s first semester of senior year I’ll have a 4.05 weighted gpa which is .1 lower than the average from my high school. Plus I got a 33 on the ACT. Also I have a really compelling essay about taking care of my disabled brother because my parents both work 8+ hours a day. And I have 200+ hours of community service.
You really don’t have anything to lose by applying EA. If you get deferred, they’ll get your senior grades and treat your application as if you applied RD. In addition, you’d have a chance to send a letter of continued interest.
You’ll probably be deferred so make sure to ace your senior grades! After they see them they will make a determination. GPA acceptance range depends a lot on high school, so if your school is Cranbrook, International Academy, Roper, Greenhills, WiHi or one of the other feeders your GPA may already be OK.
