I got an early admission letter today in the mail! It was postmarked on the 22nd. Hopefully some of you others will be getting them shortly, too!

Just some quick stats if you want to compare:

33 ACT
3.7 GPA UW
Top 5% of class
Moderate ECs
I go to a small rural public school in Indiana.

do you know if the decisions are now available online? I"m being a good mother and not peeking in my daughter’s account! I"m trying to decide whether to let her know that decisions are out, or just wait until something comes in the mail.

also, are all the decisions made, or just the early writes???

Sometimes I wish I didn’t look on this forum so much. It really does take the element of surprise out of things. But, I"m hooked!

^The wording of the letter strongly implies that only the early writes are out. It also makes no mention of being able to check one’s admit status online. My application status makes no reference to me being admitted, either. So it seems to me that the only way your daughter will be notified is if she recieves an early write in the snail mail. I wish her luck!

I got one of these letters too! I’m sooo excited! haha hand-signed letters ALWAYS make me feel so good! :)

“It is my pleasure to enthusiastically offer you admission to Macalester College beginning in the Fall 2010 semester! I invite you to become a member of the Class of 2014, not because you meet the requirements of some magic admissions “formula,” but because we are convinced that you will contribute something unique, special, and original to the Macalester community.”
^ the first paragraph of the letter :)))))))))

(I have really good stats/class rank, normal ECs)

I’m not sure what is meant by “early admission letter” but my daughter received her offer of admission today. I’m proud of her and delighted for her!

Again, judging from the wording of my letter and looking at Macalester’s past admit process, there will be two fleets of admission letters. The first batch are coming out right now. These are the early admission/early write letters for people who applied regular decision. The college strongly believes that these people will be accepted “pile” for sure when it comes time for the second, more scrutinized fleet of admission letters come out near the March 30th deadline. The 2nd batch will also be when the rejection letters come out. Keep in mind that none of this applies to international applicants.

Now that I have read the letter, it is clear that it went out to the applicants whom the AdCom was sure would be admitted at the end of the process. Applicants who didn’t get the February 22 letter are still under active consideration for the March 31 notifications.

I’m not feeling very optimistic that I will be admitted come late March, but this definitely means that this letter is reserved for those who are in the top 10% to 20% of admitted applicants, right? I’m hoping I still have a small chance, hehe.

And I found it so great that the envelope the letter came in said “YES Macalester” giving us a heads up instead of having us wait to open the envelope and see if we got accepted.

Yes, my son just got the acceptance letter today, but it was mentioned that the usual deadline was March 30th… I guess that’s what “early writes” get. Nice, hadn’t heard of that before.

Woot! I was really excited to get one too, especially since I thought it was a letter threatening to drop my application because of missing materials (I had already gotten 3 of those) =)
