This is a thread about Early Admission Programs. I am probably going to apply to Bard College at Simon's Rock this fall (sophomore year). I am a freshman now in high school. I got a 3.198 GPA last semester, because of my math grade. My math teacher didn't teach us a lesson and it's hurting myself this time around too. No one would change for me and I'm stuck. I am pretty sure my GPA this semester will be much higher and think I will get it to a 3.4ish GPA. I hope to get it to a 3.6ish GPA next year and that's how I want to go in for the Rock. I will skip my junior and senior year if I go. I need about 20k of AEP though.

Here is my schedule this year:

AP Human Geo
Accelerated Integrated Algebra
Honors Bio
Theater Workshop
Honors 9th grade Language Arts

Here is my schedule for next year:

Accelerated Integrated Geometry
Honors Chemistry
AP World History
French I
Advanced Acting
Honors 10th grade Language Arts

Also here are some other programs that I have researched and found out that have Early Admission. You only skip your senior year if you go here:

University of Southern California (Residence Honors Program)

Ithaca College, New York (liberal arts school and you can cross register with Cornell)

Flagler College. St. Augustine, Florida. (liberal arts school and campus very beautiful)

Sarah Lawrence College, New York (liberal arts and right outside of Manhattan)

If anyone has any info on any of these schools, please tell us. You may also add on if you would like to. I want to be a print journalist, film actor and a screenwriter. I am definitely a Social Studies and Language Arts person. I was actually just in a poetry contest too and my poem was about the Holocaust. I even wrote to Miep Gies (Holocaust helper to Anne Frank). My dad's Jewish, but I'm raised Roman Catholic. Btw, I may get an agent in NYC at Simon's Rock and audition when I have spare time. I really thought their was some need for this type of thread. I want a head start in life and I am ready for college after next year. I can't do dual enrollment until I'm a junior. I don't loathe high school, I'm just over it. I also really liked USC's program, but it seems like a huge reach at the moment. I also don't want to go to the Rock, knowing I could have went to USC. Please lets begin this discussion that I've been waiting to talk about. Also, please tell us what program your intrested in. I know their must be some people like me. :)

I found, from personal experience, that almost every school will do early admission after your junior year. If you can just get through the one extra year of high school, you’ll have so many more options open. You also have to keep in mind what you want out of your college experience. I considered Simon’s Rock but decided that I would rather have older peers, so it wasn’t the best option for me. I also made a similar decision about the USC program. I didn’t want a formalized early admission program because I just wanted to be a regular freshman. However, you may well prefer to be with younger peers.

If you’d be really happy at Simon’s Rock and you really don’t want to do your junior year of high school, then I’d suggest you just apply to Simon’s Rock. I think, if you get strong grades there, you’d have a very good chance at a transfer to USC after your sophomore year, whereas I would agree that early admission would definitely be tough.

First off, thanks so much for answering anechkak! I really do appreciate it, :)

Yes, I have heard Early Admission is A LOT harder. I also would be going to the Rock after sophomore year. I would skip two years of high school. I’m also intrested in Northwestern because they have an Accelerated Masters Program. I could get my BA/MA in print journalism in 4 years. I also don’t mind with being with kids my own age. I just want to start college already and start my life.

I didn’t find that early admission was nearly as hard as people made it out to be. My admissions decisions played out basically the way I would have expected if I had completed high school normally.

I think Northwestern would probably be too much of a reach for you, given your high school GPA. However, if you’re like most early applicants, you’ll probably get better grades in college.

I think Simon’s Rock sounds like it’s probably the best option for you. With good grades, you could definitely transfer to USC, Northwestern or similar schools, and I’m sure you’ll prefer the overall academic experience of Simon’s Rock to another year of high school.

edit: When I say Northwestern is too much of a reach, I mean if you apply during your junior year from high school, not from Simon’s Rock.

I definitely know NU is a huge reach, lol. I don’t plan on applying for it from high school. That was also my first semester GPA. Also, I would skip two years of high school at the Rock. I just said that to make it clear, lol. I understand completely about applying early to NU and I wouldn’t do it that way. I think the Rock is the best option.

As far as I know, top colleges will only accept you during junior year if you have “exhausted all high school options.” Meaning that you actually have to be as advanced in your classes as a senior…
Therefore, I recommend that you raise your GPA and take some summer courses for credit at a local state college (2-3 each summer I guess?). Although honestly, that doesn’t fit your situation at all. You’re only taking 4 academic courses your freshmen year and 5 the next year. There are many kids out there that take 6-7 academic courses a year…

Yeah, and I could skip two years at Simon’s Rock. I think it’s a great fit. $$$ is the only downfall.

Here are some to add:
Grinnell
Reed
Susquehanna

I found more, but can’t remember all the names.
