Early App. Drop 5%

Seems to be a little encouraging news...(any way for Eders)

<a href="http://www.williamsrecord.com/wr/?section=news&view=article&id=8392%5B/url%5D">http://www.williamsrecord.com/wr/?section=news&view=article&id=8392</a></p>

i guess that's good
but it also says

Nesbitt expects that about 35 to 39 percent of the Class of 2011 will be made up of students admitted ED. That number is slightly lower than last year’s 40 percent due to the drop in ED applications. The deadline for Regular Decision is Jan. 1.

hmph

This helps my spirits. Thanks for posting.

Actually, turns out its 7%; they made corrections to the original article in the Record

I wonder if this has to do with the changes in EA/ED policies at other top schools?

Except I don't think those policies (Harvard, Princeton, etc) take affect until next year.

Something similar (though more drastic at around %15) happened this year with Yale's early apps. But across the board, early applications seem to be up for instance at Harvard and Princeton... I can't explain it and so far nobody else seems to be able to either...

It was well publicized that Princeton and Harvard are discontinuing their binding ED and SCEA respectively. Many of the "echo boom" students may have assumed that early decision/action is no longer an option as of this year; others (the "advantaged") may have wanted to try their chances at the #1 and #2 USNWR-ranked unis while it is still actually an option.

I noticed in the article cited above that the number of minority applicants is only about 15% of the number of ED applicants. first- why is this number only half of that of the total college rate of about 28%. second- does this mean that a lot of those minority applicants are accepted? is this 15% typical with the college's RD applicants, and if so, that must mean that minorities are accepted at a much higher rate. right? does anyone know if williams takes a lot of minorities early? (they only have 74 applying early)
