Early Applicant Poll: Did You Get In?

Please respond to the poll only if you are a STUDENT who applied Early Decision or Early Action and have learned your status. Parents, rolling admission applicants, etc. shouldn't reply to the poll. Congrats to those who were successful, and for those who weren't... I suspect the poll will disclose you have plenty of company.

If you were able to apply to more than one school (due to a non-exclusive policy), just respond for what you think is your first choice school.

Why does this poll only go until morning on the 15th? Shouldn't you allow more time than that because I know more than a few colleges that won't notify applicants in the early round until that afternoon or a few days later.

That was the default, we'll extend it. Good point, ptmor.

d-other
i deferred myself at the last minute

just wondering, what is the odds that someone who was rejected would publicly vote in the poll? slim to none as it is right now? I find out Dec12th starting from 5 pm if I got into Brown ED.

-Suman

People would vote, I think. It is completely annonymous, so I don't see why people would hold back. Anyway, everyone will have to tell lots of people that they got accepted/deferred/rejected (i.e. friends, family, teachers, and random other people who knew you were applying).

woops sorry i didnt mean to post something :)

Roger:

why can't parents vote on their kid's behalf if the kid doesn't post on cc?

Thats a good point

Oh and my Pitzer EA won't come in till the first of the year.

What is the purpose of this poll?

It's evident from the early votes that this poll suffers from a sort of voluntary response bias. Granted, it is anonymous, but acceptees are still more likely to (A) click on the thread and (B) respond to the poll.

also, I would say that the average CCer is usually a stronger than average applicant.

But not by as much as I would assume. At least that's what we see in RSI (a summer program) admissions. Overall admit rate is like 4-5%, CC rate is something like 10-12%. Not much much more.

Hi Roger, DD applied to two EA schools. We would love to post her outcomes, but she won't hear from one school until the end of December, and the other at the end of January. While the applications are EARLY...some of the responses are less so. It seems like this poll should close the first of February.

that's about double. I'd say that's significantly more.

I think that CC student users are probably more motivated and likely to do well in college (or RSI) admissions, but a ~62% early acceptance rate (as it stands now in the poll) seems to indicate the presence several strong lurking variables that skew the results toward acceptances.

Discouraged rejected/deferred students might be less likely to return to CC forums to be reminded of their unfavorable admissions outcome, while accepted students will often want to share their excitement everywhere. Accepted students will probably be more likely to vote in a poll like this than deferred or rejected students.

Anyway, congratulations acceptees :)

exactly the point i made earlier in the forum

yes, got into UVa ED

I got into UVa ED, too!

Whoa, so many people are accepted. Is this REAL?

it's college confidential, the sample is not suppose to be representative of the american senior population of students applying early decision. It's just a poll to see how college confidential students fared this year and just to analyze for kicks. It's not to make some sudden conclusion about early decision or about the general student population or what not.
