Early Applicants for Fall 2012: 3088, Last Year 3274

where did you get this from??

[The Early Line on Early Applications for the Class of 2016 - NYTimes.com](<a href=“The Early Line on Early Applications for the Class of 2016 - The New York Times”>The Early Line on Early Applications for the Class of 2016 - The New York Times)

It’s somewhat expected. The renewal of the early program for Harvard and Princeton definitely took early applicants away from other ivy league schools/top 20 schools.

What do you guys think the total number of apps will be?

Based on the stickied/featured thread on top of this forum; it shows last year’s numbers (i think total) was about 34,000, a thirty two rise from the year before, which had about 25,000 applications. So with this trend, do you think the number for this year will be closer to 45,000?

It will be about 30,000 for Columbia, UPenn, and Brown
It will be about 20,000 for Dartmouth
It will be about 28,000 for Princeton
It will be about 26,000 for Yale
It will be about 35,000 for Harvard and Cornell

It is so hard to think of those sad ED kids at Columbia, Penn, Dartmouth, etc. that really want to be at Harvard and Princeton.

I think Columbia will be closer to 35,000 than to 30,000 applicants this year, but I think the decrease in Early Decision applicants is due to the economy causing parents to want their kids to be able to compare financial aid packages and look for less prestigious schools who still offer scholarships.

I guess that’s better for ED applicants?

Now I think about it, I think the other Ivies might have approx. the same number of applicants and possibly a little rise for H and P b/c of the SCEA.

I am so glad I am graduating this year. Imagine ten years from now, 75,000 people applying for 2,000 spots.

^That’s exactly what I was thinking. How admissions to highly selective schools will change once applications go up to 50,000-70,000.

The schools will accept more people (inevitable)

More schools will become “selective” aka top tier

I saw that! Hopefully it means that this year’s applicants will fare better.
