Early application with low SAT score or later application with higher SAT score?

Hello, I am planning on applying to the University of Texas at Austin this fall. However, I have a lot of unfortunate results. You see, I am in the top 5% of my class. 32 out of 680 people. I excelled in maintaining my good grades in school, and took 4 AP’s my junior year. However, I took the SAT and received a 1530. I know it is a very low score, so this is where my dilemma occurs. I plan on retaking the SAT’s again in October for a much higher score, but I know colleges treasure early applications, and I’m afraid that I would risk my acceptance with a later app.

I need some tips and any input on what I should do. Thank you all.

I would re-take your SAT to insure that you get the major of your choice.

I agree with @collegefind if you are in state and if you stay in the top 7% of your class you will be an auto-admit but that does not mean you will get into the major of your choice. If you are OOS I doubt you will get accepted with your current SAT score so in either case it’s best for your to retake the SAT before applying.

absolutely take it again, and again. It will be extremely hard to get into your desired major with that score. They’ll let you into UT, but not your major. One idea would be to also try the ACT. The test is a sligthly different focus than the SAT and some people do better on it than the SAT (and visa versa). Also they may have ACT tests at sooner times than the SAT.

Definitely retake.
