It is seems hard to believe that my son pushed the send button on his early app to Dartmouth two years ago. The next six weeks was a very stressful time at my house. When he called my wife on Dec 12 to become a member of the class of 2012 it was great moment for him and our family. Good luck to all those applying early for the class of 2014. Remember that if you are denied or deferred in December that there are many other great universities and colleges that are awaiting you. Be prepared for a let down and have a back up plan.

Does anyone know how many spaces will be allotted for legacies, athletes, URMs, internationals or other special categories? Is there a way to figure out how this pie will be cut?

Thanks, this is helpful. I’m not a statistics person but it looks to me like (approximatley) 200 females and 200 males will be admitted. 31 Female legacies and 42 female URMs. Anyone have any thoughts on this analysis?

whiteagle: Be cautious when drawing conclusions for the numbers. It’s not like Dartmouth aims to get ~40 female URMs. You can’t quantify the process, only the end result. The big thing to remember about admissions is that after a certain point, you really can’t affect how you’re going to be seen besides from putting your best foot forward. You are who you are; embrace it and hope for the best.
