Early Assurance Medical Programs

Hi, im a senior in high school and have been accepted to Binghamton University. If i wanted to participate in the Binghamton University-SUNY Upstate Medical Program, or the Binghamton University-SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine Program, would i have to apply now, or is that something i do once i am in college?

Also, are there other schools in NY that offer Early Assurance Programs like these for Pre-med students?

You do that once you’re in college…

I’m also a senior whose also been accepted.

Take note that, for the Upstate Med, you still have to take the MCAT and get a 30+, with 10 on each section.

dudecollege. How do you know that the MCAT is still required in conjunction with the suny upstate early assurance program and if that is the case is that for students applying this year? I am asking because according to suny upstate’s website in the section with the early assurance program information it indicates that the mcat is not necessary if you are admitted into the program. sorry about my ignorance and I appreciate any information that you have. thank you!

According to a pamphlet available on the Binghamton website:

“1. Applicants must have completed three of the four of the required premedical science course
sequences, with a minimum GPA of 3.5 in both science and non-science courses and by the
end of sophomore year. Applicants should also have attained a score of 1300 or higher on the SAT (math + verbal).

2. Applicants must complete an application form and submit it, along with SAT scores, a transcript, a processing fee, and any other required material to the College of Medicine prior to July 1st of their sophomore year.
3. Applicants must complete a credentials file in the Pre-Health Professions Advising Office by
June 1st of their sophomore year and have their composite evaluation sent to the College of Medicine. For information about this process, applicants should inquire at the Pre-Health Professions Advising Office.
4. If accepted, students must maintain a normal course load during their remaining two years,
complete the pre-medical requirements, perform well overall (i.e. 3.5 GPA or higher), and graduate from Binghamton.
5. Starting spring 2011, if accepted, students must take the MCAT and receive a score of at least 30 in one sitting.
6. Students must commit themselves to attend the SUNY-Upstate Medical University College of Medicine upon completion of their degree at Binghamton.”

Pay attention to #5, which mentions the MCAT requirement. The SUNY Buffalo Early Assurance Program, on the other hand, does not have this prerequisite, since it requires a 1400 on the SAT, unlike Upstate’s 1300 requirement.

thank you so much, DudeCollege, very helpful information.
