Early Chances for some Top Schools

I'm only a junior but I'm wondering what you think my chances are up to this point.

-SAT: 2340 (Math: 800) (Reading: 750) (Writing: 790)

-GPA: 3.97 (It'll be around the same after Junior year)

-APs: Sophomore: European History (5),
------Junior: Language and Composition, Statistics, Chemistry (5 is expected on Chem and Stat, not sure about English, but 4 or 5)

-I've had a rigorous schedule with lots of honors classes. This year I'm taking 3 AP's and college level Spanish (I receive college credit).
-My senior schedule is going to include AP Spanish, AP Calculus BC, AP Government, AP Physics, and college level English and Math (with credit).

Extra Curriculars:
-National Honor Society (member)
-Spanish Honor Society (member)
-Debate Club (member)
-Chemistry Olympiad (founding member)
-Math Fair (I submitted a research paper)

Volunteer Work:
-Leadership Organization (member, 40 or so hours)
-Helping at Museum nearby (20 hours)
-Tutoring at local Boys and Girls Club (15 hours)
-Member of Board at Public Library (10 hours)

My teacher rec will be great and my counselor rec will be very good as well. I haven't written my essays yet so I can't tell you about that.

I'm a white male from NY, so no hook. I know my grades and SATs are strong for pretty much any college, but my EC's are pretty weak.

What are my chances at:
-Washington University in St. Louis
-Cornell
-UPenn
-Brown
-Northwestern
-Tufts

Oh, and the GPA is unweighted.

The only flaw I see is weakness in ECs. You need to try to get some leadership to jump off the page.

-Washington University in St. Louis—match
-Cornell—reach
-UPenn—reach
-Brown—reach
-Northwestern—match
-Tufts —match

the national association of college admissions counselors did a survey of colleges and universities in the united states and the results were interesting-only about 8% said extra curriculars were of any importance at all-this was the bottom category-i think your volunteer and extra curricular activites are just fine-and while your stats are excellent, i would say all the schools are reach for virtually any student these days-what with brown having 30K+ apps this year and accepting a class of 1500 +/-. that being said, i think your best chances would be at cornell, tufts, (especially if you’re a male), and northwestern

I agree with ksmith, though WashU and Tufts are always unpredictable as they both have Tufts syndrome. I think you have a good shot at Cornell as well as those two.

I don’t think your EC’s are that bad. Comparing them to other people here probably makes them seem worse to you than they really are

All the schools the OP is applying to are in this category.

The problem with your ECs is there isn’t even a single leadership position. You should try for at least one.
