There is a residential program called the CRAFT academy near where I live that boasts finishing the last 2 years of high-school whilst you finish the first two years of college. It is free (so essentially 2 years of FREE, transferable, college credit). I know the people who run the program from a summer camp, and am thinking about applying. I’m homeschooled, don’t have great options for advanced classes, like to be challenged, and am a very hard worker. The major issue, and the reason why I’m here, is that I am very close to my family. My parents insist that I only have a few years left with them, and that I shouldn’t leave earlier than I have to. What are some less obvious factors that I should consider when making the decision? General advice? I a plan to attend a high-level college.
Many of the top private colleges do not accept transfer credits, or are pretty picky about those they do, and even some public ones may not accept everything. I would look specifically at the policies of schools you are interested in. Also, it can be significantly more difficult to apply as a transfer student, and you also will not qualify for many of the scholarships offered to entering freshmen. I would be cautious about this.
Does your local high school not offer AP classes? Those tend to be more accepted by top colleges, though again you should check specifics. If your parents want you to stay home but can’t offer more academically, that might be the best option.
