If my daughter doesn’t get into her first choice women’s college Early Decision, should she apply ED2 at same school or is the message to move on to RD? If deferred versus rejected, that is. I honestly think her second and third choice women’s colleges will be even harder to get into so not sure if ED 2 will make sense. Interested in thoughts and experience about what to do if ED doesn’t work out for a dream school and they have ED2
I think if you get deferred, you are moved to the regular decision category. I believe ED2 is not an option.
Can I add a secondary ? to you ED question. If not accepted ED, is it better to be deferred to RD or waitlisted?
Well, it’s not like you get a choice. Sending ED applicants directly to waitlist is a relatively new phenomenon, I believe, but I’ve seen it happen here and there. A deferral is better, I think, as you have a chance of acceptance at the normal RD notification time, whereas waitlist offers won’t be made until later, and many schools maintain large waitlists while making very few offers.
To the original question, ED2 is only useful in this situation if you’re willing to send a binding application to a different school after being deferred ED1. You can’t ask for a deferred ED1 application to be considered ED2; deferral to RD is deferral to RD.
Thanks for clarifying. That makes sense.
if you are deferred it breaks the agreement and you can ED2 somewhere else I assume not at the same school.
