My two top choices are Lehigh and the University of Michigan. Both of my parents went to Lehigh. Early decision accepts 60% and regular decision 25% there. I have a 3.5 weighted from a very prestigious high school (I know it's bad), 31 ACT with 32 superscore. I have a 1450 2 part SAT score. 680 reading 770 math. Sat 2's: 760 math 2, 740 math 1, 710 chem. I got accepted to purdue for chemical engineering. I love michigan and lehigh and have since I was a little tike. I was deferred from michigan in their biggest applicant pool ever. They increased how tough they were early action this year by a lot, I will see if I can find the article. Should I take my chances, apply r.d. and see what happens, or apply e.d. 2 to lehigh? What do you think my chances at Michigan are?

If you are accepted to Lehigh, would you attend? Do not use Lehigh as a “safety net” in case things with Michigan do not work out. You’ve already been accepted to Purdue, and if it’s affordable, you don’t need to worry too much about getting in elsewhere.

Purdue is my safety but I don’t want to go there. I’m not sure if I would choose Michigan or Lehigh if I got into both

Michigan has already said no once. They had their chance. Ask Lehigh if you like Lehigh. If Lehigh says yes, Michigan’s loss, not yours.

Do you need a large FA package? Many applicants / accepted students have not gotten lots of $$$ from Lehigh, something to consider. If you need the freedom to compare packages, ED is not the best choice. If money is no object, then go with your dream school, there’s a decent chance you’ll get in.
Yes, if you don’t need fin aid and are indifferent between Lehigh and UMich, then give Lehigh ED2 a try.
If you can’t decide which of two girls you like better, ask Girl 1 out and she says she’s undecided, do you wait or ask Girl 2 out?
Are finances not a concern?
Thank you both and finances are not a concern. Now can I apply ED2 and if I hear back from michigan and I got in, then change my Lehigh app from ed2 to RD if I ask them before I hear back from Lehigh?
if you do not want to go to purdue, than you should not have applied!
if you do end up attending the school, I hope you do not go in with the I don’t want to be here attitude. it will make you unhappy and will also be a drag on people around you who are at purdue because they really want to be there.
To echo @zobroward Purdue is NOT a safety if you don’t want to attend there. BTW, you were deferred from UMich so you are now in the RD pool. It is Highly unlikely you’ll hear from them before an ED II school.
Though like many state schools (with a giant number of both applicants and slots), UMich’s decisions are somewhat rolling, so admittances will start tricking out in batches in the spring before May, @"Erin’s Dad".
From what I have found they will have a batch of notifications in late January, early February, and March and the rest around april
I say do EDII at Lehigh. Michigan can go either way and Lehigh is VERY hard to get in RD…I know kids rejected with 35 ACT’s and great GPA’s. And if Lehigh says no, then you know you tried your best. Chances are you will get in though so only do this if you like the two schools equally. Michigan may come back with a yes, but then again, they may not if this year is turning out to be as competitive as it seems, it may not be worth the risk. You probably made your decision by now, this is a late post…what did you decide? Good luck!
I’m going to apply ED2 to Lehigh, and if I get accepted from michigan before I hear back from Lehigh (lehigh moved notification to late february), I will change my Lehigh application to the regular decision pool. My counselor says they will allow this if I call them before they release decisions.
so - what happened
I was admitted to Lehigh ED2!!!
