Early Decision after all?

A girl at my school (she has decent grades and test scores, nothing special) said that she already got into UF. I told her that was impossible because unlike UCF, etc, UF waits until February 15 for ALL students, and there is no early decision.
She said she called the admissions office and asked about E.D. and they said that they aren't advertising it, but if she wanted, they would let her do it, and she did, and already got accepted.
I don't know this girl particularly well, but I just don't know why she would lie about something like this, and she doesn't seem like the type that would make up such a story (again, she does have grades and scores that could get her into UF).
Until I see a letter of acceptance, I won't believe her and personally think she is either confused w/ UCF or made it up, but who knows?
Has anyone else heard about this?

I dont know anything about it, but why would UF want to keep ED decisions on the down low? It doesnt make sense to me, but I dont why she would make up that story either.

I highly doubt this is true. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't tell a student that they have ED they just don't advertise it...

Um, if you want to know so bad, then I know something you can do, you go to UF's website, look up Admission Office's number, pick up a phone, dial that number, ask if they have "E.D." or anybody that knows about it. And then you should get a pretty reliable answer, since it's coming straight out of UF's Admission Office, wouldn't you say so?

We were at UF over spring break and they made it very clear that they will have no ED this year, just the one notification date in February.

yes, that's true. There is no "ED" this year but when I spoke to an admissions officer 2 days ago, he said that sometimes he calls early applicants that are on the fence and very interested in UF and tells them if they got in, so that they feel better.

I'm not sure if this is true, as he said it kinda offhandedly, and I'm not sure he actually does. But in any case there will be absolutely no letters sent out until the 15th of February.

ob - i think it would be problematic and unethical for the admissions office to have an unofficial policy. the only thing i can think of ---if she is telling the truth is that the admin officer suoplied info he shouldnt have. in other words who knows maybe all the applications that have been submitted are being reviewed as they come in. maybe they have made some decisions and he released info he shouldnt have. do you know what she wants to major in. maybe it is a major that is not as popular so they gave pref treatment. or maybe she is confused

Probably the latter

I know she said it wasn't an official letter or anything yet but the officer just told her. I'm going to ask her more about it on Monday, because like most of you, I really don't believe her. I went to the outstanding hispanic thing this summer and they absolutely said no E.D.... So either she is flat out lying, confused/misunderstood an officer, or the officer either said she will probably get in or actually said she was in (which is the case i doubt the most).

I will post the info tmrw... if she actually has a letter of admissions, I will believe, if not, I won't

Well, I spoke to the girl today and she said her dad has been is an alumni and has been a large supporter for years. She got an appt w/ an admissions director and basically was told she got in (in July). She recently received her letter of admission which confirmed her acceptance.

I think that this is ridiculous, even if she has some connection to UF, she should still be treated the same as everyone else and told at the same time as everyone else, or they might as well go back to early decision

orangenblue, it is true. I have a friend who applied RD last year. She was actually offered an early admission when her father called and told them she had been deferred at her initial "ED" school. There are all sort of things going on behind the things with adcoms in all schools in general.

hey ob any more word on this girl and her acceptance? has anyone else heard of anything like this? is till find it hard to belive and agree with other poster if it is true it is not fair

Well my last post still stands. She got the congratulations package and is going to bring it to school this week. I fully believe her now because at first her story was sketchy, but the pieces fell together. (I have made numerous visits to UF and the admissions office and she actually knows what she is talking about).

Ok so can we call the admissions office and tell them we would like to ED? I don't understand how this can be going on without the binding contract

whoa let us know when you see it.........

it's not about what you know...it's about who you know

orangeblue

did your friend ever bring the letter in to show you?

One of my friends called admissions and tried to talk them into ED for her UF-obsessed D (who even has a music program hook). They told her there is absolutely no ED this year, under no circumstances.

Thats why I think its strange. Even if there was ED, werent ED decisions mailed out in Dec, not in early Oct.
