early decision and early action at once?!

hi guys, ive always thought that if you decide to apply early to a school (talking about nyu here) that offers only early decision you cannot apply any early action to another school.

but someone told me that you can do this:
apply early decision to nyu
at the same time apply early action to say, boston university
and you can apply to however many early action schools as you want while applying one early decision.

is that true?
thanks!

Yes b/c ED is bind and EA is not. However it’s not so for SCEA (single choice early action)

Are you sure? I think if you ED you’er not allowed to EA anywhere just as if you SCEA you can’t EA anywhere.

What are you guys talking about? If you ED at NYU, you CANNOT have any applications at other schools during that time. For NYU, you must withhold all other applications until you receive your admission or rejection.

I am applying to NYU ED as well!

oh really?

which school are you applying to?
and if you dont mind, would you tell me your gpa and SAT scores so i know if i even have a chance? haha

Asking one applicant isn’t going to tell you anything. Look at the middle 50% stats.

[College Search - New York University - NYU - SAT®, AP®, CLEP®](<a href=“College Search - BigFuture | College Board”>College Search - BigFuture | College Board)

There are a few schools, like Yale & Stanford, that have Single Choice Early Action. At those schools, you cannot apply anywhere else for Early Action or Early Decision, although you may apply to state schools that have rolling admissions.

There are a few schools, like BC and Georgetown, that allow you to apply to as many non-binding EA schools as you would like, but nowhere ED.

There are a few schools, like Brown, which do not allow you to apply anywhere else early if you apply there under ED.

However, most schools allow both. You may apply ED (binding) to one school, and EA (non-binding) to as many others as you like.

Read the fine print on the application websites of the schools you want to apply to.

You can apply to as many schools as you want, even with the one Early Decision, but if you get in to that one school, you have to withdraw all of your other applications immediately.

“What are you guys talking about? If you ED at NYU, you CANNOT have any applications at other schools during that time. For NYU, you must withhold all other applications until you receive your admission or rejection.”

Simply totally wrong.

[NYU > Undergraduate Admissions > Applying for Admission > Freshman Applicants > Early Decision](<a href=“How to Apply”>How to Apply)

It depends.

When you apply ED, you can apply anywhere else you want RD or EA, unless the EA is restrictive.

If you get accepted ED, you must withdraw your other applications.

You must attend the ED college unless your financial package does not meet your need and there is no way you can pay.

These are the rules, right? Unless a specific college’s rules state otherwise?

You can apply to as many EA schools as you want as long as they’re not SCEA.

^ and ^^, both correct, but I would append:

If you get accepted ED, you must withdraw your other applications if the ED FA offer is acceptable.
