is it true that ED kids normally end up in better housing? that's what i've heard - but wasn't entirely sure.

Nope (some one lied to you),

It is not true. All freshmen fill out the housing request forms at the same time. One can choose to live in East Wheelock (via application) or one can request sub free housing.

Other than that there are no preferences to housing and the cycle which you were admitted does not matter.

It’s probably only slightly more likely, because if your parents donated the new/awesome dorm, they will let you stay in it. (and these wealthy legacies often apply ED)

well that definitely won’t be me! thanks for the information, everyone.

After reading the D housing website and sybbie’s info above, I am slightly confused. I understand that you could request sub-free housing and you would end up at Ledyard Apts (only 23 beds avail?..), but what do you mean when you say you could request to live in East Wheelock via application? Thanks for help! Any other freshman living advice or info appreciated.

Yes, you do do not automatically get placed into EW, must apply to live in the East Wheelock cluster.

[East Wheelock Cluster](http://www.dartmouth.edu/~ewc/)

All incoming freshmen will eventually recieve this letter and this book. I hope it helps

Most Frosh stay in the all-first year housing, The Choates, which has whole wings that are (supposedly) sub-free. In theory, all buildings are smoke-free.

do a lot of people sign up for substance-free housing? i feel like my parents would make me.

Most frosh do not stay in the Choates. Although the choates is 100% freshman, it’s not the majority of the freshman. Freshman live in East Wheelock Cluster (mixed), McLaughlin Cluster (75% freshman), Russell Sage Cluster (90% freshman), The Choates (All Freshman), or the River Cluster (all freshman).
