<p>I've been planning on applying early decision to Northwestern, but I'm not so sure about one thing. I'm auditioning to get into he music school at Northwestern, and in order to get into the music school, you have to be accepted academically. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get in academically, but if I don't get into the music school, what do I do then? If I do early decision, they say I have to withdraw all my other applications, but if I don't get into the music school, I won't be going there (I'm going for Music Performance, so it's kind of important that I get into the music school). Any advice or comments or suggestions or whatever you guys have would be greatly appreciated!</p>
<p>You should talk to someone in the music department. We had this issue last year with S but now I can't remember exactly what we learned. What I do remember is that he was strongly discouraged from apply ED to the music school, especially with his instrument (trumpet). It is very very difficult to get accepted ED to music because they generally want to wait until all auditions have been held so very few spots are given ED. There was also a big downside to applying early to music but I don't remember what it was. Maybe no deferrals?</p>
<p>I have the same problem with Northwestern University and the University of Rochester's Eastman School of Music. Both ED choices require that I withdraw all other applications within 3 weeks of being accepted (if I get accepted). And since their audition dates are different (along with the actual university application deadlines), that would not be a good scenario if I got accepted to both within 3 weeks of each other (would it?).</p>
<p>Anyone have any experience with this? There are audition deadlines for music (have to schedule by Nov. 1, and complete audition by Nov. 21). Anyone know the acceptance rates for ED in music? Does it vary by discipline?</p>
