We recently visited Elon and it is a standout first choice for my DD. She has, in my opinion, an impressive resume. We believe Elon would be a perfect fit. We have been told that applying Early Decission greatly increases chances of acceptance, especially from her high school which will undoubtedly have a plethora of applicants. We have also been told that applying Early Decision almost guasrantees you will not receive a Presidential Scholarship. I was wondering if anyone out there applied Early Decision and did receive a Presidential Scholarship.
Absolutely not true. Both of my kids applied ED to Elon and both were accepted with Presidential Scholarship. If her stats and resume warrant it, she will receive it. Her admissions rep can provide some information about what they are looking for when making Presidential decisions.
@Embracethemess thank you for your response. May I ask what year your children started at Elon? My understanding is that Elon is a super hot school these days and each year it is getting more and more competitive.

@college582 They were freshmen in 2012 and 2015.
Does anyone know the actual criteria (SATs and grades?) for the scholarship and approximately what it took to qualify recently?
My daughter applied Early Action and yesterday received a Presidential Scholarship. Her best friend also applied EA and received a different scholarship. They were both between 1250-1400 SAT and 29-30 ACT with multiple AP classes, 12 season athletes, NHS and leadership positions from a large public high school near Baltimore. They loved their tour at Elon! Good luck!
I’ve heard this myth across threads and I’m just curious what is the logical reason people believe that Elon would restrict presidential scholarships from ED applicants? It doesn’t quite make sense to me.
There are no hard and fast criteria for qualifying. Applicants are judged based on the strength of the overall applicant pool. Scores that qualify one year might not make the cut next year based on who applies.
I believe the thought stems from the fact that Presidential Scholarships may be used to entice students to attend Elon. Students that apply ED have already committed and do not need enticement.
presidential scholarships are automatically offered to the top 15% of the incoming class, regardless of when you apply.
