Early Decision and Regualr Decision for College admissions

Hi, I am going to be a senior next year and I have a question on undergrad admissions.
I heard that it's easier to get in with early decision but harder to receive financial aid...Is this true?
Also, what's the difference between early decision and early action?

Thank you so much!

I guess you can say that it’s easier to get in with early decision, but not necessarily. And I’m pretty sure that it’s actually easier to receive financial aid (Unless the college is being stingy or something) because you get first pick.

Early decision is binding and early action is non-binding. So if you apply early decision to a school and you’re accepted, you MUST attend that college. But if you apply early action and are accepted, you can choose not to go.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong because I’m not nearly as well-informed about early plans as I thought I was :P’

Kagami, you’ve got it. One could exit the ED agreement if the ED school doesn’t give adequate fin aid. There are some certain requirements to voiding the agreement so be careful and read the fine print.

Oh, I see. Thanks JoonBug812! :)

The issue with ED financial aid is you’ll need to accept the aid offer or turn down the school completely on the basis of financial aid before you see any other offers. In the RD round, you can compare offers and ask your first choice school to match a peer offer often with success. If you turn down your ED school thinking they were stingy with FA and then your other offers come in the same, you can’t go back to the ED school and say you want your spot back because they were competitive after all.
