Early Decision Applicants - 2017

I’m from Asia. Are there many Asian applicants this year? I hope not :))

I am a Pakistani :)

oops…Asian :p

I just want to say good luck to everyone. My son is a sophomore at Bowdoin and it is such a great place and a great school; I really don’t think he could be happier. HOWEVER, he applied ED elsewhere and was rejected. (Btw, a school not as highly ranked as Bowdoin!). Now I can’t even imagine him at the other school because Bowdoin is such a great fit for him. So as you await your ED results, know that good things can come from a yes or a no.

Just FYI, the Bowdoin admissions office is starting to call schools for first quarter grades, so they are likely getting close to making decisions. No clarity yet on the date when decisions will go out.

Yeah I asked my college counselor today about my first quarter grades and he said that they have already been requested. How exciting! I hope the letters come soon.

My counselor told me they are making the decisions tomorrow. Not sure if it’s for all decisions. I hope this means letters are gonna be out this Friday/next Monday or even earlier!

Wow, that’s so soon! How did your counselor know?

Decisions are being made tomorrow? How do you know?

That seems a bit early, especially considering there’s a record number of applicants.

My regional admissions officer told my counselor that she needed the grades by today because they are making the decisions (it could also be just my decision) on Tuesday (tomorrow). I have no idea why it’s so early. But I know in past years, the decisions have been mailed out on the 9th/10th. Last year was probably an exception. I hope the letters come soon.

Can anyone please tell me that why are these grades needed since my school has provided all the reports required?

Medion, I can’t speak for anyone else’s situation, but for my S last year, when he applied ED his transcript was submitted showing his grades/GPA through the end of his junior year. On the Common Application his senior schedule was listed. However, the mid-year school report with his semester grades would not be sent until early January. Bowdoin called his school counselor to find out his in-progress grades for the fall semester of his senior year, since they needed to make a decision before the mid-year report would be sent. My guess is they want to see how they are doing academically, if there are any red flags or changes.

Depending on the timing of school terms, it’s possible other schools would have sent in a mid-year report and would not have any need to check in-progress grades.

Thank you so much,College_ Query.
I was a bit worried about it but I believe that my school report already includes it :)

the Facebook page shows a pic from Dec 7 (2011) with caption “…after three full days of ED selection meetings” and another pic from Dec 13 (2011) with caption “letters will leave Brunswick today”

I’m just gonna wait and hope for the best… trying to pull myself together and not do anything stupid before the results come out :(

I wish they emailed admissions results…

I think for int std they will, but for US std they will mail the results directly.

It will take me at least 3 days to receive it. Even for priority mails.

I think by now they have finally made their decisions…

I think it will take at least 3 days for them to make the decisions and a few days to assemble the letters. I will be very surprised if my letter reaches me before the 15th.
