How long was everyone’s ‘Why Reed’ Essay? I am worried mine is a little bit too short, around 400 words.

@anthroprospie Mine was originally 830 words. I had to cut it down immensely for the word limit and it ended up at exactly 500.

Mine ended up in 492 words. Hey, has anyone received the email with information to check the application status?

@android789 No, not yet D:

Then I guess we’re getting it this week. It’s just that I got an email with the pin and portal application link from the other colleges I applied to right after submitting my application, but from Reed I just got a sort of confirmation email.

How long did it take for the confirmation e-mail to come?

Well, I submitted my application on a Friday and got an e-mail by Monday

Seems like they’re having some kind of programming issues. I submitted my application for 10 days now but still haven’t received the ID yet.

Good to know I’m not the only one – I was starting to freak out a bit.

I don’t think they’re sending out portal IDs. When I was up there for the ROME program, students said that you have to wait for an actual admissions decision through email.

Although you should have received at least a confirmation email

I think they will send out portal IDs. Otherwise, there is no reason for this: http://admission.reed.edu/status.taf

Thank God, I got my confirmation email! Still no ID, however.

so, on a lighter note, is any of you (who applied ED1 to Reed) an international student? I’m from Vietnam

Visited earlier this summer, had an interview w/ Asst. Dean Kati Sweaney (who is coincidentally the first person to see all applications)
Received a thank you note ‘reminding’ me of application season maybe last week, seemed like a likely letter type thing (Why encourage someone you don’t want to apply?)
My Why Reed? essay was definitely solid, probably 8.5-9/10
Common app essay was about overcoming depression and anxiety through music and by empowering myself, was very good imho
Teacher recs should be amazing, one from my World History AP teacher and European History AP teacher, and another from my English III AP teacher who called me ‘an English teacher’s dream’ in her summer rec letter for me, so I feel pretty good there.

Applied ED1 and for financial aid with Noncustodial Profile Waiver.
