Early Decision Applicants?

Anyone else applying Early Decision here? What do you think your chances are?

Also, my school seems to be having an issue with Naviance not sending my electronic transcript...do you think i will be fine if it's not received by the deadline? (Which has been extended to Nov. 5th btw due to Sandy.)

My admissions councilor said i should be fine...but it's always good to get a few opinions, no? :P

Best of luck, Atlas!

Generally speaking, as long as you did your job, and submitted your application by the deadline, you will not be penalized if something you have no control over, like the transcript, arrives a few days late. But, I would check your OnTrack account and make sure Elon has the transcript this week. Call admissions if you do not see it listed on OnTrack and see if they have it. Good luck to you.

ED applicants have until November 19 to have all credentials in, as long as the application itself was received by the extended deadline of November 5th. If there is something missing close to that deadline, they will e-mail you. Good luck!

Thank you NMR! And yup, i checked, they received everything thankfully! Please drop a line if anyone else is doing ED, or applying in general!

Here’s a question that probably reveals my astounding (and admitted) level of ignorance about the whole ED thing: when Elon says that the ED decisions will be available at midnight on Dec. 1, does that mean the evening of Nov. 30 when it turns to Dec. 1?

The evening of November 30th. In past years, some reps would actually call accepted applicants after about 4pm on 11/30. But not all do - so don’t panic if you don’t get a phone call. Then you can log in at midnight.

I would guess the reps must call the applicants that they really want? Yet even as I write that, it doesn’t make sense because if the kid is applying ED, he or she wants to go there and has to go there. So I wonder why the reps would call …

I think it’s just a personal choice by the rep. For example, the person who covered NJ did so last year - called accepted students in her territory. If you look at the ED thread from last year, you will see people posting that they got calls. But, not every rep does this, so don’t be alarmed if you don’t get a call.

Thanks, rockvillemom. My D’s rep was fantastic: so nice, attentive, answered questions and was very accessible. I can’t say enough good things about her. (Are in you Rockville, MD?)

My S was an ED acceptance last year with scholarship, and he did NOT get a phone call from his rep. So don’t panic if no call comes in!

Here’s a question from a true novice: my D applied ED and just got her first quarter report card. She is wondering if it makes sense to email her admissions rep to ask if they need to see it. She did very well, so I think she is feeling that it would help her cause of getting into Elon ED. But I fear it might be annoying to the ad rep.

It can’t hurt. D could just send a quick email that says, “just want you to know that my first quarter was great.” show the grades. doesn’t have to be an official report.

that is not annoying, but demonstrated interest.

I agree with samtalya-
Sending those grades are not annoying-but showing real interest in getting in.

Thanks, everyone. She sent the email. It can’t hurt, I guess!

I hope I am not annoying y’all with all these ED questions, but my older D is a performer, so she auditioned for college. I am not accustomed to the regular academic admissions process and feel a little out of my element. Anyway, someone said that when kids get accepted ED, they are sort of at the head of the line for housing as freshmen. How does that work? What choices do freshmen actually have at Elon for housing, and what (being optimistic here that kiddo will get accepted, though that might not happen, of course) do you experienced Elon folks recommend? We heard a lot about learning communities when we visited several times, but my girl is one of those well-rounded types who does not have only one intense interest (well, she does – dance – but I doubt there is a dance learning community).

Hi - the ED kids do get their housing first - before the other incoming freshmen. In April - they are asked to complete a form online in which they list their 5 housing preferences. The ED kids are placed first - so they are more likely to get their first choice - although - no guarantees. The list they will be able to select from changes every year. Colonnades is very popular - and my ED son did get into it - so we were pleased with that. He did select a LC that is in Colonnades - so that also helped.

Your place in line for housing is determined by when you send in your $500 housing deposit. If you’re concerned about getting first choice housing, I’d get that check into the mail on 12/1 or 12/2 - as soon as you get the ED acceptance. It’s not due until later so many others will probably wait to send it in. The EA kids will hear on 12/15, and that’s a LARGE pool of kids.

Elon On Track says decisions will be out Nov. 30th and the Elon website says Dec. 1st. Anyone know which one is correct?

11:59:59 on Nov. 30 - as in, Midnight of 12/1. Good luck!
