Looked online - the new housing is now called the Global Neighborhood. Looks like part will open fall 2013 and the rest fall 2014. Themed around global studies, foreign languages and international experiences. I saw a quote that it would be housing primarily freshmen in 2013. Did not see any info on floor plans or style of housing.

Found a little more info, 4 buildings housing 150 students each. 70% will be freshmen living in doubles.

My son was in Virginia as a freshman–very social, coed, traditional style, attached to West residence hall-- and you couldn’t beat the location. In between McEwen dining hall and the fountain, across the quad from the student center/library. He made tons of friends.

Ditto, ditto, ditto 3garcons post. My S too is making tons of girl and guy friends in Virginia/West. The dorms are older than Colonnades, but that’s part of the charm. The location, IMO, is best on campus. S prefers the traditonal hall-style layout, with rooms opening directly into the hallway. Bathrooms are private, shared by 2 rooms of same-sex kids. If you are able to get to a Spring orientation, check out all the dorm options as best you can. We didn’t pay close enough attention, but fortunately I got all the info we needed here on CC! Virginia was his first choice, as an early-deposit ED admit he got it, and he is 100% happy with his decision!
