Early Decision Application For Fall 2011

Hi Everyone

We are from Canada. My son will be applying to Tisch in the Fall of 2011 for September 2012 enrollment.

My apologies if this questions has been asked before and I'm asking it again.

If you really want NYU Tisch and this is your first choice do you recommend early decision? Are your chances better because they view this that you are serious?

Also, is it possible to get waitlisted from the early decision pool?

If we don't get into Tisch is there any other good film programs that anyone could recommend that aren't scholarly but have the "contacts"?

Thanks in advance for all the responses.

ED depends alot on your financial aid status, especially for NYU. I have heard that ED applicants who have gotten accepted to NYU tend to get lower financial aid because they essentially have to attend NYU. If you don’t need any financial aid go for it. if you do have a large need base, I would not.

I’m not exactly sure of NYU policy but most colleges do defer applicants from ED but not waitlist. waitlisting if after the RD pool.

^^^ That’s not an accurate statement.

(1) If your son is truly very interested in NYU, apply ED. If your son gets accepted, you will receive a financial aid package, containing the FA that NYU is providing to you, as well as loans available to cover the remaining cost.

(2) Contrary to the above, " I have heard that ED applicants who have gotten accepted to NYU tend to get lower financial aid because they essentially have to attend NYU. " this is not true, for two reasons. Financial aid, if submitted by the deadline, is considered equally for ALL students. For evaluation of how NYU gives out financial aid, please see my more in-depth description:

Now, if your son were to be accepted ED and you do not believe that it is affordable, you’re allowed to back out. In cases where finances are the issue, NYU ALLOWS you to back of your ED agreement; no hassles or problems. NYU understands that it is very costly to attend and therefore allows leeway in its’ ED agreement.

I think if you have finanancial need, your package will be the same whether you apply ED or RD.

I am not sure about how things stack up if you apply ED hoping to get merit aid (if you have no financial need.)

I would be curious to hear if people rec’d merit aid without having need as ED candidates.

NYU doesn’t waitlist or defer ED applicants. It’s either a yes or a no.

For all the replies. We are new to the U.S. Application process. So ED or RD is a real toss up. I would have thought if someone applied ED then NYU would know they are serious about this being the place they wanted to attend and would view their app/portfolio different?

Also, I thought I read that there was no FA or Scholarships available for International Students.
