more people will help their rankings. the better they rank, the better students they will attract

maybe, just maybe someday it can replace cornell as the elite ivy engineering school.

This may be true...but I'm more concerned with my acceptance at this moment

More applications=better for the school
More applications doesn't equal for better for you or I

But wait - It's like your HS normally sends in 10 ED apps per year, and about 3 get in. But this year, 12 apply ED and 3 still get in. So, last year there was a 30% acceptance rate, and this year there is a 25% acceptance rate. Even though there is a 20% increase in the number of apps, the acceptance rate only went down by 5%!!! Wow. I feel better now.

actually..there was a 34% acceptance last year..and htis year it should be around 28...so 6...not that im picking at facts or anything :) haha..really though just though id put the exact numbers out there

You're right, of course, I was just using round numbers to make the point, but I was too lazy to go find the exact numbers, beaten down as I am tonight!

ugh im exhausted too..had swimming time trials tonight

Are Sri Lankans under represented at Penn by any chance....???

haha...probably..i cant imagine there being too many

i don't care about how penn looks right now... i care about getting in... 42% seas increase is insane...

do i have a better chance?

last year: 15 overall EDing from my high school, 4 engineering 3 accepted.

this year: 34 overall EDing, mostly wharton/college. I think im the only one EDing to Engineering.

my school is one of the top math/science schools in the country.

any idea?

This is so depressing. I'll have to stop coming to CC because all I get is more and more anxious overall... and well, being an international SEAS applicant who needs fin aid now I have to face harsh reality: I'll probably get rejected. yes, it sucks....

I want to cry :(

pimpthatthang, thats crazy

i cant imagine...

34 penn ed applicants from one school!?!??

dayumm

It sucks because the good is really good and the bad is really bad.

The good: getting accepted to your #1 choice + you don't have to do any more apps + you don't have to worry about getting into college!

The bad: getting rejected from your #1 choice + you need to work on more apps + you have to continue worrying about getting into college..

It's sad that each are at COMPLETELY opposite ends of the spectrum.. sigh

Ugh, that's so depressing. I'm not feeling too confident right now. I handed in all of my RD applications already, so it's just easy sailing from now until whenever, but still. Why does the year I apply have to be the year EVERYONE and their mother applies??? sigh

yeah the 42% increase for seas is fantastic
[/quote]
Hell yeah! Penn SEAS is going to be awesome in the future.

Of course, I guess that'd be at the expense of rejecting some really great applicants...

collegecountdown...if ED fails, Princeton will take a huge hit, too, because they fill about half of their class ED...A couple years ago I believe they actually filled a greater percentage ED than Penn did. And their overall yield is only about five percentage points above Penn's.

Actually, I shouldn't say take a hit...they'd just have to accept more people...it'd still be a great school with great kids.

The new CS building was finished some time ago. A new building for BioE will be completed by Spring. And if you read the other article on the Daily Pennsylvanian, a new Nanotech lab that will be the most expensive of the new engineering constructs is underway. It should be completed in 2-3 years.

As a California asian male with average SAT scores applying to Wharton, I'd just like to say...
