Early Decision at WashU

Hey guys, I was wondering if you could rate my chances. I'm going to be doing ED at Washington University in St. Louis......

Male Asian American, live in Maryland and attend a competitive high school

Unweighted GPA - 3.46
Weighted GPA - 4.30

my high school doesn't rank

I take all honors and AP's in high school, my senior year will consist of: AP Chemistry, AP Psychology, AP English Literature, AP Spanish Language, Honors Symphonic Band, and AP AB Calculus......

SAT: 2100 (1410 M+V) will retake in October
SAT II: Math IIC - 740, Biology E - 680 will retake both in November, but probably too late for ED at WashU
ACT: 28, will retake in September
AP: Biology - 4, English Language - 3

-Member of several leadership councils that work with the county and the county executive

-held several treasurer positions on SGA boards at Chinese School and in community

-Coach tennis

-In community orchestra

-Track Team all throughout high school

-Do a lot of tutoring children

-260 hours of Community Service

-member of several clubs in school

-Nationally Ranked tennis player and won several tournaments

-two years of summer internship at a lab at UMCP

-school year internship at an engineering/sound company

I feel that I will have a good essay and good recommendations.....so what do you guys think?

Even when schools don't rank, the school profile lets them know where you are in your class. I'm guessing a 3.46 is not top 10%. Your SAT/ACT are also low so I'd have to say chances aren't great.

oh....so is there basically no hope?

Your SAT is actually okay, ACT a little low. GPA a little low. There is hope. Reach. Have good essay/rec. Show extreme interest in school. Visit, interview. Apply anyway.

bump.....anybody else got any comments? thanks

I think your'e a strong applicant.

Getting on the mail list will help.

I think ur GPA is too low. But if u can get recruited for tennis who knows.

bump.......

I think that you should apply. You have strong SAT scores, and just because of your GPA, doesn't mean you aren't a top student. For all we know, your school could be so competitive that the highest GPA could be a 3.5
Focus on your application.

Ummm, a 1410 is not strong for WUSL.

well it is not awful either

Apply ED and see how it goes. WashU is a school I noticed for prefering the ED students a lot more. Most likely due to the fact that a lot of students whom, apply to WashU are capiable of getting into the ivies.

APPLY ED, and see how it goes, and if you can visit the school. I've visited the school twice, and joined the mail list, and I get calls from them all the time, making sure I attend workshops in such. Ehh I don't plan on WashU but ehh, w/e.

*BTW why aren't you taking the ACT in Sept?

i am taking the ACT in september.....yea and ive signed up for the mailing list a while ago and ive been in contact with my area admissions officer.....all this would show interest and help right?

bump.......

your chances look good...what i cant seem to understand is how ur gpa jumped so much.....wish they did that at my school

Good luck

umm i disagree with ur chances. id say u have a very good chance (however gpa is a little questionable.) ur sat is fine for their school, we had a number of students apply early last year, all got in with sat scores much lower than yours (1190-1290). ur sat 2s are fine. the only thing a little questionable is ur gpa abut you cant really do anything about that. remember, talk about why washu. they really wanna know why u wanna go there. i think ur chances are fine and u should get in ED I

There is very bad advice on this thread. You have both a below median GPA and below median SAT for a top 10 school. Without a hook, this makes admission highly unlikely. What are these people thinking?

what are the median/average GPA and SAT accepted for WashU?

How has your GPA changed through the years?
