Early Decision Chances for Mechanical Engineer

List of Colleges:

  • Harvey Mudd
  • Cornell
  • Carnegie Mellon

I am interested in applying to one of the following colleges early decision. I have looked into these colleges and absolutely love each of them. I am having trouble gauging if I have a good shot at these colleges early decision. I am interested in applying for mechanical engineering. Here are my current stats:

SAT: 1470

SAT Math II: 800

GPA: 3.8 (unweighted)

AP Calculus: 5

AP Comp Sci: 5

Activities:

1. Full time internship as mechanical engineer at Transenterix, a surgical robotics company over summer
2. Leader of Robotics team (senior year), co-leader of CAD and mechanical (sophomore and junior)
3. Design and build racing drones, autonomous planes
4. Designed and 3D printed robotic prosthetic hand.
5. Self taught how to fly planes
6. Algebra 2 as independent study over summer (freshman)

Next year’s courses:

  • English 12
  • AP Physics
  • AP Calculus C
  • AP Stats
  • AP Chemistry

Do you think I have a good shot at these colleges early decision? What about regular decision?

Imo your ec’s are very strong, but your stats are a bit shaky. I would recommend retaking your SAT or go for ACT’s instead because you seem like a very strong science person. For engineering, your race and gender will be a huge determining factor as well. Something that’ll back you up really well are any awards/competitions. Honestly, for a RD student I would think you are fairly average, but for ED I think you are p good assuming you go to a small school.
