Early decision chances?

If I love the campus when I visit in July, I'll most likely apply early decision.

Top 10% of class in high school in NJ (400ish people)
GPA: 3.98 UW (4.3 for A+), 4.50 W (5.3 for A+) (pretty sure it's still considered a 4.0 and 5.0 scale, but not too sure)

SAT:
First sitting - 1480/2130 (680 CR/800 M/650 W)
Second sitting - 1460/2260 (700/760/800)

Superscore - 1500/2300 (700/800/800)

PSAT: 204 (commended, notified BC and Northwestern)
ACT: getting score back in a week or so. don't know what I got (first time)

Senior year schedule:
Physics H
English 4A
AP Spanish
Gym
AP Econ
AP Environmental
AP Calc BC
Independent study: portfolio of newspaper stories I'm going to write, model for an honors journalism or online course.

ECs:
- Newspaper: Feature editor (10, 11, 12), copy editor (9)
- Key club: editor (12), member (9, 10, 11)
- Spanish Honor Society: Co-president (12), member (11). Will really be setting the precedents for the club, making it an official charter, etc, as this is only the club's 3rd year in existence and still is not an official chapter.
- NHS member (11, 12)
- Senior mentor (12)
- Spring track (10, 11, 12)
- Winter track (11, 12)
- Jobs:
- Gym supervising (10, 11, 12)
- Umpiring softball (9, 10, 11, 12)
- Tutoring math (started this year, hopefully continuing and more consistent next year)
- might work at the library next year, probably instead of gym supervising and umpiring
- Probably going to organize some sort of volunteering effort over the summer. Any suggestions on charities that I can do drives to collect donations? Soles4Souls?

I will be an economics major, maybe not minoring but also studying math/statistics and hopefully 2 foreign languages.

Thanks!

My standard question:

What do you think your chances are? What do you see as your strengths, and what do you think of as your weaknesses.

Hey, I’d like to give a fellow Yankee fan some help! I say yes, you look good, and you would look even better if you could get some ex-NU player / alum that might have a couple of WS Rings, and now manages the Yanks to write you a rec letter…:)

But unfortunately - unless you really DO know Joe Girardi - getting into NU these days is like getting into an Ivy - it’s a numbers game, and nobody can really answer your question except for an Official NU AdCom.

Good luck,

Go Cats & Yanks

Nugraddad, I did know Joe Girardi at NU! (same year, mutual friends)

Thanks for the help guys! I’m looking forward to my visit in July. If I love it, I’ll probably apply ED.

I too will be more than happy to help out a fellow Yankees fan…I think your chances look really good. Just be sure to write great essays, and you shouldn’t have too much of a problem ED. The only one weakness I can see is that your EC’s are a little bit too varied. It doesn’t really seem like you have a passion, per se. On your app, I would just pick a few of your EC’s that you really love and emphasize those, rather just give a laundry list. Good luck!

I’ll probably stress my newspaper work and Spanish Honor Society. This year I will be making it an official chapter and setting the precedents. I have also become very devoted to the newspaper and think I can write a good essay with my experiences and have truly learned a lot.
