Early Decision Chances

Oh and I hope nobody takes this the wrong way “always was of the opinion that girls who can do math are super cool =]” - maybe I really meant it as “girls who like math.” Tactless of me.

mathboy98, thanks! haha i’m the only girl in my calc iii class and sometimes that gets tiring, but still fun. (sorry that was confusing, should have started my own thread for the RD chances)

i thought my Why Mudd essay was strong. i looked at reviews & descriptions of mudd, it was fun-obsessive research. if you’d like to take a look and see what you think, that’d be cool - already submitted it, but yeah. i showed my interest by talking about my favorite stuff about math: a fun activity where we learned the disk method (integrating volumes) by slicing lemons and the odd stuff that only math students like & make me love being around them :)

mostly my classes are the ones mudd requires for you to be able to apply: calculus, a year of physics & year of chemistry. i exceed the requirements for math w/calc iii this year. pretty bad physics satii though, partially cause our physics teacher goes really slow.

i sent a thank you card after my interview & talked to the claremont-mudd-scripps cross country coach briefly. don’t know that there’s much else i can do

Well, I sincerely hope you make it in! I do think you have your shot. Generally I think people who made it somehow conveyed their interests in the essay/interview, and had one of either very good math and/or science coursework and good test scores.

It sounds like you’re the kind who can do really well with the right resources, and standardized test scores often only reflect how well your school adhered to what’s covered on the given test. So if you have strong coursework and other evidence of passion, I’d say you can be recognized.

And sure, I’m on break, I wouldn’t mind taking a look at anything for the sake of it =]

Oh and uhm, I go to Cal…haha, not Mudd, but I almost went there and am a fan of it.

Thanks! I’m really hopeful about it - I’m almost superstitious at this point.

Yeah you summed it up about right. At my interview, I got some advice for that: look for schools with good guidance & resources to help me find my way. Something to that end.
I applied to other schools but it’s basically instate university or Harvey Mudd. I’ve got family really close to HMC too, so I would love that too.

Okay, yay! What’s your email?
