Early Decision Clarification

Basically does early decision only work if you're applying to U.S.A schools? Basically say I got accepted into my early decision school in the U.S but then also got an offer through UCAS from my first choice U.K university.

Could I then reject the U.S university for the U.K one?

You’d have to have a basis for cancelling the early decision contract. Applying to another college, just outside the US, seems like a sneaky way to get around the basis f the early decision system.

The idea of ED is that you commit to that college, not that you only commit to it over certain types of schools.

and after being accepted ED you are required to withdraw applications from all other schools.

It would be wiser to only apply Early Action or Regular Decision in the US. Some of the UK institutions will drop your application if they learn you have an ED in the US. I do not know if all of them will.

If you are really asking, “I was accepted ED for this fall, but I’ve just found out that I’ve been accepted in the UK, what do I do?” Then you need to find out if your ED admission in the US is a deal-breaker for your UK university. If it isn’t, drop a line to your ED institution and tell them that you won’t be attending after all - something along the lines of, “most regretfully need to inform you that my situation has changed.” They cannot come to your home, pick you up at gun-point, and force you to attend. Every single year some people don’t end up at their ED insitutions for any number of reasons. In this case, I expect that not giving a reason is probably best.
