Any advice on doing an EARLY DECISION for Cornell vs CMU. Are the chances of getting in higher? Any other thoughts. Thanks,

They are different. Know nothing about you - interests, etc. Find the right one for you.

Make sure you run the NPCs and can afford b4 u ED.
According to a post I found here 25% of applicants were accepted at CMU vs 17% RD. Cornell likely will also give an edge and some schools are filling more and more of their class ED. Penn, as an example, over half.
I am responding to this post specifically because it is a rarity on CC: an applicant asking about comparable programs!!
The differences between them are small enough that you should ED the one that you should genuinely pick the one that seems the most like where you belong!
Did I miss something …yea.
Comparable ?
I missed JHU. It rolled to the next line. MY BAD.
Thought it said CMU vs Cornell. Not sure those two are comparable but we know nothing about the student.
I would ensure they can afford. No merit at Cornell.
Would love to know more about OP - desires, pursuits etc but in the end you are right - pick the one that’s right for you, not simply your best odds. And odds at these schools will in part depend on major…especially Cornell.
I can likely guess the major or main area but don’t want to do so.
JHU acceptance rate for ED is significantly higher than for RD. Sorry I don’t have link to the source handy.
No ED stats but you can see here the importance of ED. 821 admitted ED. 1586 RD or deferred from ED. I don’t see common data set to grab the yield but the year b4 1338 enrolled so that’s another 500+ of the 1586 so somewhere about 1/3 of the remainder I’m guessing and obviously 100% of the 821. Actually that would put the 821 well over half the class. Maybe I’m missing something but that would show significance of applying ED although not an acceptance rate.
