Early Decision/Early Action?

First off, what is the difference between the two of those???? Secondly, if you apply ED/EA at one school, do you have to wait for the results (to be rejection) before you can start applying elsewhere? Is there an advantage to applying early?

Sorry if that's confusing, but I'm just now starting to consider ED/EA! Thanks so much!

Early decision is binding. If you apply early decision to Cornell, and get accepted, you have to go to Cornell. Early action, on the other hand, is non-binding. It is just a way of showing interest and will also get your decision to you sooner.

If you do go ED or EA to any school, you can apply to other schools as well (only one school can be ED, multiple can be EA, however). It would be ill-advised to wait for an ED decision before applying to other places, because if you do get rejected, you're in a mad rush to apply elsewhere. So it is very much allowed to apply to other schools even if you've chosen one for ED.

Oh okay, great! Thank you so much!!!

A correction to above: if you apply EA at some schools you may not be able to apply ED or even EA at another until you get your decision. Example: Stanford has single choice early action meaning if you apply EA there you are prohibited from applying ED or EA elsewhere. Thus, before applying ED or EA check rules applied by colleges to which you intend to apply.

Oh yeah, that would be restricted EA, though, and the schools should specify that right next to the option.
