Early Decision for Brown or Vassar?

I was wondering whether I should apply to Brown or Vassar early decision this up coming fall. I'm not too worried about my involvement in ec's and by the time i've taken my third sat my superscore will probably be somewhere in the 2000s or 2100s; however i'm in the second decile of my class, which poses a problem. I have an unweighted gpa of about a 91 and a weighted gpa of about a 96. I fully acknowledge that both of these schools are extremely selective and a reach for most people (including myself). The thing is, Brown is my dream school, and I am afraid that if I get rejected from brown early decision, and then apply to Vassar regular decision then I will get rejected from Vassar as well. Even though it is still tough to get into, Vassar is apparently easier to get into for men. http://www.parchment.com/c/college/college-1626-Vassar-College.html
According to Parchment, Vassar has a 33% acceptance rate for men, and the percentage may be even higher for early decision, so I may actually have a chance of getting accepted. If I apply to Vassar early decision I may actually have a good chance, whereas if I apply to Brown early decision i probably won't get in, even though it's my first choice. So idk, any advice?
Also, does being an lgbt male help in anyway? Could that help my application at all (if I somehow relate this to my essay in some profound way lol, probs not)?

Yeah um, using your sexuality as a means to get in or “make you different” is probably not a good idea. College admins are adults and when they see teens claiming to be LGBT, it tends to come off as though they are just going through a phase. Try to avoid that unless you have had serious hardships because of that. 3.6 UW GPA is good as long as you have very rigorous courses. Applying ED will probably help you more at Brown because it is more selective. Do you have any ECs? That could be the thing that pushes you over the edge and makes you stand out

french honors society, national honors society, freshman advisor (if my application is accepted),marching band, symphonic band (hopefully pres next year), co founder of a book club at my school, and science league. I also have a part time job at a music store over the summer and fall. Additionally, I have volunteered with an environmental organization in my town and i’ll probs be interning for them starting this spring or summer. I mean my ecs aren’t perfect and it may appear that there is no unifying interest, but I have involved myself in things that I am sincerely interested in, so I don’t regret doing any of them lol. This prob won’t give me an advantage over anyone who did anything productive at all over the summer, but I did a high school program at Brown last summer.

Not trying to be insensitive, but Brown has the ability to reject kids with 2400s and a 4.0 gpa. Unless you have some sort of “hook,” i.e. you cured cancer, or you are the first person in your family to go to college, you will probably not get in. If Vassar and Brown are more or less on a par with one another in your mind, I’d recommend choosing Vassar. I applied ED to brown with a 3.8 unweighted gpa, stellar ecs, and an act of 33 and got deferred and then rejected. I got into Vassar off the waitlist when I applied regular. If you think you’ll be happy at vassar, apply ED. Brown is a long shot for everybody, especially somebody who has an A- average

yeh, it’s really difficult to tell. from my school there have been students with the perfect scores, similar to yours, who have been denied, and then there have been a few people with grades lower than mine who have been accepted. i feel like it would be the smarter thing to apply to vassar ed (even though that’s still a reach) even though the passionate, ambitious side of me wants to apply ed to brown. i wanna cry lol.

also i go to a somewhat competative school, where a 96/97 (weighted) gpa would put someone in the second decile (like me). I feel like this will be what kills my application the most.

dietcokeismylyfe, where did you rank in your class?

My school doesn’t have class rank. I’d recommend ed to vassar :)
