Ok, so as ridiculous as it seems getting into Cal Poly these days, it's my dream school, and I'd kill to get in.

My question is- are there any negatives to applying E.D. if you know for sure that you would attend if you were accepted? The only reasons I can think of are that if you for some reason got extremely ill and couldn't go... which I know someone who that has happened to.

And, for such a competitive school, would applying E.D. have any impact/enhance my chances?

If you’re sure Cal Poly is your top choice and you can afford to go there with little or no financial aid (there’s not a lot available outside of Federal grants/loans) then by all means, apply ED. There’s no evidence that applying ED will help your chances, but at least you might get an answer in December. The best thing you can do is have a rigorous schedule in high school, get top grades, and do well on either the ACT or SAT.

Here’s from the Common Data Set. The second set of numbers includes ED applicants. Students who apply ED and who are not selected are considered for regular decision.
