So i’m thinking about applying Early Decision but i’m worried about financial aid. I don’t exactly need a full ride in FA but i need at least $20,000.

I’ve heard BU is pretty good with FA but do you think i’ll get that much applying ED?
ALSO, do you think I can get in with regular decision? This is my top school so I don’t really want to risk it but if I have good chances of getting in during RD i’d do that.

It’s good to be worried about financial aid, but if BU is your number one choice, you don’t care about comparing FA packages, and you just want to know if you can afford it, go ahead an apply ED. BU accepts the Common Application; here is the ED FA rule:

Wow I never knew that, but that helps out a lot.

However there’s still a big problem. I heard you wouldn’t find out about your BU financial aid package til March or April. Also, BU wants you to pull all other applications by January 15th… So what would happen if I pulled all my applications by January and in March/April I find out that I get insufficient financial aid and can’t afford to go there? Can I un-withdrawl the pulled applications? Will I be collegeless?

This is where you need to ask the BU FA office. But generally you get an estimate with or shortly after receiving the ED acceptance notice, and you’re generally given a few weeks to a month to decide if this offer is sufficient. If you accept the offer, then you withdraw your other apps. Then if your family income changes from the previous year, the final package can change in the opposite direction, but this generally works out satisfactorily. Ask BU about all these details.

I never knew that. I’m gonna give them a call soon. I’ll let you know what they say for future reference.

UPDATE: Just called and you’re correct. You get an estimate around the time of the acceptance letter and a couple months down the line you give them more information and they work out the package.

city vibe, great location (on the water), business school is pretty good, good major / minor program and study abroad program (a lot of places to choose from), so much around (clubs/bars/arenas/stadiums/other colleges) good season (cold winter, hot summer) and finally good transportation. haha just a couple things that attracted me
