Early Decision Help

Hi everybody,
I love Johns Hopkins and it is definitely my top choice, but I don’t know if I am a viable candidate. My school doesn’t do AP classes or calculate GPA, but I gets A’s in my English and History Classes and B/B+'s in my other three classes and I scored a 2170 on my SAT (w/ a 1440 split), a 780 on the Lit SAT 2 and a 710 on the Latin. Not to sound too braggy, but I am a very accomplished writer from someone my age–published in a major national magazine and featured in The Best Teen Writing of 2015 anthology put together by Scholastic–and my counselor thinks that my essays are really really good.
Is it worth applying JHU early decision or should I set my sights lower?

Thanks

It is absolutely worth applying ED if Hopkins is your top choice and you can afford it! If you don’t, you’ll always wonder. Don’t underestimate yourself. Your writing may very well set you apart.

It will be a reach but that’s not a reason to avoid applying. Just make sure you have a safety or two you know you can afford and would be happy to attend on your list.

Agreed, it is a reach but why no apply? That way you’ll never 't have to wonder “what if I applied to Hopkins?” Just be sure to have a good range of match and safety schools in the mix as well. And consider applying EA/rolling to some other choices.
