Early Decision I (Official Thread)

anthonya, how many of the 17 in your class who applied early to Columbia got in?

Also, I really didn’t think the rejection email was harsh at all. The news itself is hard to take, but what else could they have said?

Yeah it sounds almost CRAZY that they didn’t accept you…I mean not everything is about GPA. But then again this girl and this guy just applied to my school and she had a lower GPA than him, he did SO much more than she did- she got in. He got deferred. Nobody will ever know how it truly works. It also depends on who, exactly, is reading your application, you know?

My S was accepted to the Elliott School ED.

He liked the idea of accept/reject rather than deferral, so if the news was bad he would have to move on, rather than dragging out the process.

To anthonya, there are other threads that talk about best and worst rejection letters. You may find that this was not as harsh as some. No matter how it is worded, a “decline” always hurts. Keep your chin up, and really polish those other apps!

trust me, american is a safety…you say to look at the stats…so i did…AU has an acceptance rate of 54% while GW is 38%…uhhh i say safety…american has really been falling through the ranks over the last decade

Yea im sorry to say anthonya but its not all about gpa and SAT. I had a gpa of 3.34 and a SAT of 590cr 550m and 530w. I did however show lots of interest with 2 tours and an interview. Plus i would say i definitely had good essays and recommendations. I had lots of EC and community service. Plus i was a URM and legacy which is kinda rare i would say. In general i really think it was the interest i showed which is why i got in ED1.
I’m sorry you didn’t get in man. ill definitely keep you in my prays.

URM+Legacy is about as powerful a combination as a hook as anything else. The only thing I can think of that is better than this is URM+Legacy+Athlete (I would say this is very rare).

Other candidates without your double hook will have to have REALLY AMAZING ECs and such to get admitted with the same stat you have, regardless of how much interest they show in the school.

Not to diminish your qualification. I, for one, support URM policies enthusiastically. This is a justifiable admission policy. I don’t agree with the legacy part. (I am saying this as a parent of a non URM kids and a graduate of an Ivy, the status which can help my kids if they apply to my alma mater).

oh well, thanks for all the advice people…
have fun at GWU for those who got in

I got in!! Yes!

got accepted as well. anyone know anything about GW’s policy with accepted kids in regards to revoking acceptance. thanks.

they dont revoke unless u dont graduate which is like impossible to do

I know it’s over a week later, but I totally lost my password for this website.

I also got in :)

Has anyone received their financial aid package yet?? Was it what you expected?

What is gwu’s ed acceptance rate

Why did you resurrect a 2 year old thread for this?

^ i second that .

and its 38% . at least it was for ED 1

GEEZ
I’m sorry! Haha. Not on purpose. I just looked on google and found this thread… thanks though.
