Early Decision II Notification?

I understand Colgate’s ED II has quicker notification that their regular decision, but for anyone who has applied ED II, how long did it take after you submitted to receive a decision? I submitted my application months ago, supplement Friday, and the FAFSA and CSS this past Tuesday. They received my ED II agreement last Thursday. When’s the soonest I can hear back?

@UniGirl2017
I submitted my application around the 23rd of december but due to the holidays and break my school did not send out my first semester grades until January 3rd. Over break I was in contact with the admissions office and they said they would be able to look at my application after my transcript was sent over. I would keep checking your portal because on the 6th mine said they had made their decision and a package would be mailed to be. I just received my acceptance package on the 10th. I hope this kind of gives you a timeline for when you will receive your decision.

Did anyone who got accepted get this message not here portal? Or is this a sign of a rejection:

Colgate’s Office of Admission has appreciated the contact we have had with you through your college search. We understand that you are eager to learn the outcome of your application. The application review phase is now complete. We plan to communicate our admission decisions soon. We do not display decisions on the portal and we do not give out decisions over the phone. We thank you again for your interest in Colgate and give you our best wishes for your college career.

@cawledgecollege4
I got that on my portal too and the package came a few days later.

@ssmith1999 I’ve reached out to Colgate a few times to ensure certain aspects of my application have been received. If I were to call them asking about the status of my application, would be help any? I’m really anticipating a decision, and you seem to have received yours fairly quickly.

The only way you’ll find out is by asking. Answers are part of the service.

Best of luck!

@markham Thanks for the advice! Honestly, I wonder if they’re a little sick of me calling at this point (I haven’t spammed them, though I have called about three times in the past two weeks just to ensure they received my ED Agreement, supplement, and financial aid, all of which were sent at different times). I don’t know how else to convey my demonstrated interest. I have a feeling the decision could be this week, but I’m not sure at all, it’s only a hunch. Would it take longer to process my application due to financial aid?

Also, I just thought I might ask you a quick question, since I’ve checked throughout countless Colgate discussion boards on this site (out of curiosity and anxiety) and have seen that you have personal experience with Colgate. Would a positive teacher recommendation letter from an alum of Colgate help my chances at all? I can’t think of a way to possibly phrase that to an admissions office and know of no one who could answer this, as I know few people with enough experience at Colgate to provide a response. This teacher has had me since sophomore year (sophomore and junior year English, honors and high honors respectively, as well as junior and senior year when I served as submissions editor and editor-in-chief, respectively, for our school’s literary magazine, which she manages) and knows my intense love for English and writing (creative especially), my work ethic, and my ability to do well in some of the most difficult classes my school has to offer (I went from sophomore year honors English to high honors junior year, which is equivalent to AP and led to my ‘5’ on the AP Lang. exam, and then to AP Lit. for senior year).

Ouch that was long. So, long story short, this teacher knows me very well, and loves Colgate. We’re similar in our academic pursuits among other things, and have a good relationship, so I trust her letter will certainly be positive (she also has subtly been encouraging me to choose Colgate, haha). As a modestly young alum, will a positive letter from her do me any good in the admissions process? Obviously it wouldn’t hurt, but could there be any particular advantage that you could think of? Your advice and assistance are greatly appreciated.

It is very kind of you to request information of me and so I only hope it is of value to you and that you act on it before
decisions are made during this application period.

Sure, ask for that recommendation to be issued as soon as possible. There is absolutley no downside. Nor is there to checking on the status of your application. This is a busy time of year and the office is undoubtedly equipped and ready to respond to your type on inquiry.

Good luck with your efforts!

The teacher is question was actually the first I asked! I talked to her in June last year, and she posted it in August (first to do so, I loved her punctuality). When her recommendation didn’t show up on my portal, I called to ensure it was received, and had it changed from ‘Other’ to ‘Teacher.’

All right, I’ll call them tomorrow to inquire of my status. As you can probably tell by this point, Colgate is my top choice, and I’m greatly anticipating the release of the decision.

Thank you so much @markham !

Got my acceptance letter! It came in the mail last night. :smiley:

This is terrific news indeed.

Now settle back, enjoy your senior year, and start anticipating how you will encourage all kinds of new challenges at Colgate!

Your next 4 years will present incredible challenges globally. Colgate, in beautiful Hamilton, will be a fine vantage point for appreciating who you are and how you will contribute to our world.

Welcome to the Class of 2021!

Go 'gate!

Can either of you tell us when Accepted Student Day is?

@markham It is so helpful reading all these tips and advice. Thank you for that!

Quick question…Does Colgate inform ED II admissions over email or in the mail? Is an email a rejection or deferral? If my portal says that my application has been reviewed, how soon should I expect to know?

Thanks!

@erdog110 I got my acceptance in the mail. Based on what my portal and several admissions people told me, they don’t give admissions decisions over email, portals, or the phone, so expect notification through the mail. By reviewed, do you mean your portal says the application process has been completed? If so, it should not take that long- mine was updated on a Friday saying they finished reviewing my application, and I got my letter three days later on Monday

That is the message I had on my portal. Did you have the same thing?

Yup! The exact same. My portal displayed that message shortly after I called their admissions office a week ago- like, an hour after I called, this message showed up. I got the acceptance the following Monday. You may get something this coming Monday, or at least next week! Good luck!

Should I just call their admissions? I applied ed2… but for some reason FAFSA isn’t submitted yet.

@ecrumb When did you file? I called the day after filing mine and they said it takes about 48 hours to process FAFSA.

The 13th. Probably a fafsa issue then. I’ll call the financial aid office tomorrow.

@erdog110 if you don’t mind me asking, when did you submit your application? and how quickly after they received all your materials did that message appear? Best of luck to you! :slight_smile:
