Yes! I got accepted to the School of Engineering and Applied Science with a half tuition scholarship of $72,800.

Stats:
1300/1600 SAT
46/587 Rank

Great job on your acceptance, but HOW did you get that scholarship? My interviewer told me they didn't even consider merit awards for applicants under a 1350 or 1400 (I can't remember which it was).

That's a really good question - I was completely shocked. My stats are probably in the lower half the class. Here's the exact thing it says: "Your admission is further distinguished with a half tuition School of Engineering and Applied Scholarship which is based on your impressive academic credentials. This annually renewable scholarship, worth up to $72,800, requires you to maintain enrollment in the School of Engineering and Applied Science."

Maybe it's due in part to America's need for Math and Science students or something like that. I've won a few awards and trophies and was in a lot of clubs, my essays and recs were pretty good, but I still think it's weird I got that scholarship when people with better stats didn't.

i'm sure there is no cut off on the sat for merit aid- i'm sure to get merit aid at GWU itsdonew holisticly like eveything in the college admission process should be- i think your itnerviewer was talking about admissions to the honors program -which has a cut off a 1350- unless, he is some sort of insider on things at GW- because what he said hasn't been published anywhere- i think you got the scholarship because you applied to the engineering school, which is the least applied to out of the three if i'm correct (discounting the communications school b/c its so small?)-requires you to maintain enrollment in the School of Engineering and Applied Science."
that should tell you why -guess you had higher stats that the average applicant to this school------anyways congradulations if i ever got that much money at GW i would be there in a heartbeat-- i really can't believe you got the money as a ED applicant too---that usually hurts your chances if your borderline beacuse they know you WILL COME--it doesn't serve as an incentive---

Congrats Elbuodne!!!!

You're in and you don't have to worry about the whole college process it's done! By the way how did you find out you were accepted? Did they send you an e-mail or did you receive your acceptance in the mail? Do you know anyone else who applied to GW and who has heard from them? Anyhow, nice job w/the scholarship!

Thanks! I know, it's great. I found out through the mail, I was never emailed. And, yes, I've talked to one other person and he got in as well.
