Early Decision II

<p>I'm applying to one school Early Decision I and my second choice has an Early Decision II plan. The problem is the ED II deadline is before I find out from my first choice school. Can I apply to the EDII school and revoke it if I get into my first choice?</p>

<p>Are you absolutely sure you’re reading the dates correctly? Most ED schools let you know on Dec. 15th, and most EDII schools have deadlines of Jan 1, Jan 5, or Jan 15th. The only early school that Im aware of that has a Jan. 31 notification is an early action, so that doesnt matter then.</p>

<p>Carnegie Mellon University says on their website that the application deadline is the first of December.</p>

2. EDII’s deadline does indeed come before you’d find out for an EDI school. However, I applied to Cornell EDI and was rejected, but had already submitted my regular decision application to CMU. so I called up CMU and asked if they could transfer my app to the EDII pile, as I had been rejected from my EDI school and was therefore no longer bound to the ED contract. They happily did so, and I got in EDII.</p>

<p>If you/your kid are planning to apply somewhere EDI and CMU EDII, just make sure your app for CMU is submitted prior to the EDII deadline and mark it as “regular decision” when you submit.
