Early Decision Information

I was wondering if anyone knows the acceptance rate for early decision at Brown? I am trying to figure out if my chances will improve by applying early. I would love to attend Brown, but my only concern is financial aid. However, if applying early will help me significantly, I might do it. So, if anyone has any information about that, I would appreciate it!

Section C21 of a school’s Common Data Set (CDS) provides the information needed to do an ED acceptance calc.

Brown’s repository of CDS’s and lots of other info: [Office of Institutional Research at Brown University](<a href=“Office of Institutional Research | Brown University”>Office of Institutional Research | Brown University)

From Brown’s latest CDS published ('10-'11):
2848 applied ED
568 admittted ED

I calculate: 19.9% acceptance ED

*including legacies and athletes.

The applicant pool is much stronger in the ED round, so it’s not easier. However, because of the amount deferred and little amount rejected, I feel like it almost gives you 2 chances to get into Brown if you don’t the first time. That’s how I looked at it when I applied ED.

I agree with swim2daend. However, you need to be sure about Brown to apply ED.

If you need financial aid, you should be very wary of applying early decision. Brown’s financial aid can be good, but you might benefit from being able to compare financial aid packages from several schools.

^If you, however, fall into one of Brown’s “guaranteed” categories (less than 60k/year of family income) then you shouldn’t worry about being able to afford it (use this calculator: [Brown?s Financial Aid Calculator | Financial Aid](http://www.brown.edu/about/administration/financial-aid/undergraduate/brown-facts-and-highlights/brown’s-financial-aid-calculator) to gauge what aid you can expect. Just a warning, for a student whose family is well above 100k, it’s off by about $7,000, but it’s probably pretty close for most people).

Brown has a financial aid calculator now? That is awesome. I’m tempted to fill it out just for kicks (my daughter graduated, so it would just be an interesting exercise for me).
