ednabr cograts to your daughter
i wish i was in her shoes.
i was deferred- sorta bummed but we’ll see how april goes. its SO FAR now.oy.

Thanks.
I have a good feeling about you getting in, cuppycake. I bet she’ll see you there in the fall. April feels like a decade away right now. But it will fly by~ Fingers crossed for you!

Deferred
What are they looking for from deferred students between now and January?

So they’re mailing both acceptance and deferral letters? I thought they were only mailing acceptance letters and emailing the rest on the 15th

skipperdog – you can’t reinvent yourself, and the deferral suggests you shouldn’t: you are a student qualified for admission. Don’t slack off or get into trouble and hope for the best.

what size envelope was your deferral letter?

Accepted! I got the letter this afternoon and i’m in california.
congrats to whoever got in!

Oh dear I’m in Wisconsin and haven’t gotten a letter yet. Now I’m fearing the worst

I’m quite sure they mailed all letters (accept, defer and deny) through the post on Thursday the 9th. The only email notifications go to international students. I’m sure your letter will arrive in Wisconsin on Monday! Letters are tricky that way. Sometimes there’s no rhyme or reason. My daughter knows of 2 girls who heard Friday (also from Massachusetts, which is lightning fast mail). One got in. The other was rejected. The other Mass. kids we know, us included, didn’t get their letters until Saturday.

ednabr thanks so much! you’ve been very helpful, now I feel much better. I didnt know that they sent all decisions in the mail, I was under the impression only acceptance letters were sent. Glad I’m wrong!

ednabr- thanks so much for the well wishes. I’ll need all I can get! Hopefully your daughter and I will be friends soon enough
ke2345- my deferral letter was small- Normal sized business envelope.

I was deferred. : /

Does anyone know the statistics on how many deferred students are actually accepted? I feel like I’m going to be waiting until April, just to be crushed again.

Also, would it be insane to re-apply EDII?

If Bowdoin is still your #1, I would say apply EDII! It’s not insane at all. In fact, it shows that you’re truly committed to Bowdoin and the admissions officers will see that. However, it might not have much of a difference if you’re an international.

Are you actually allowed to apply ed II to the same school? if you’re deferred aren’t they saying they won’t reassess until the RD round?

Downeasta,
You can only apply to one ED round. Since you’re deferred, you’re still in the running at Bowdoin. Keep up your grades and update Bowdoin with any good/new academic and/or extracurricular information. It is possible to enter an ED 2 round at another college, but not at Bowdoin. If there is close contender and you want the benefit of ED, you have some time to adjust to this news, and consider your options.
I wish you well and am sure you have much to offer Bowdoin and any number of other wonderful colleges!

Really? This is news to me…

I wish we could! I was planning on doing ED2 to my other top choice if I was rejected but now I don’t know what to do… PiousAeneas were you deferred?

I don’t know that there’s anything said explicitly, but my understanding is that although there are two different deadlines for ED I and ED II, you are allowed to submit just one ED application. In other words, ED is ED and you get one bite at the ED apple. If you are deferred ED, you are automatically in the RD pool of applicants.

Admissions could answer the question in about two seconds, of course, and I suggest doing that before trying to apply ED II after being deferred to RD.

In #78, I’m talking about serial ED applications to Bowdoin. You can always apply ED I to Bowdoin and then ED II to another school if you are deferred at Bowdoin. If you are admitted ED II to your other school, you’ll have to withdraw your Bowdoin RD application.

to cuppycake:
I actually haven’t heard anything yet, which is concerning since I live in MA… Hopefully tomorrow, though I’ve got a bad feeling about it…
