Early Decision Notification

Recently, the early decision application deadline was pushed from November 1st to November 8th. Will this affect the December 1st notification date? Will we be notified on December 8th instead?

This question is answered on W&M’s blog.

Correct. We always say early December as a notification, not December 1 because there are so many moving parts to completing a review process and we never know that we’re ready to release decisions until the moment we do (last year for example a snow day and internet outage delayed our timeline). We do not yet know if the delayed application deadline will push back our release timeline. We just ask students to be patient. As soon as decisions are released we will let students know in all social media channels.

For those that don’t follow W&M’s admissions blog, Admit It, Monday’s post concluded with the following:

A big thank you to the admissions team who is working so hard and keeping everyone informed along the way!!

Has anyone heard when they are sending them out? I want to know whether I should start anxiously checking my email every hour starting tomorrow, or if I don’t have to start for a few more days.

They will announce on their blog, Admit It. As you read above they’re still hard at work and made it clear it would be after the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

W&M has one of the fastest turn times, just one month most years. Most schools have six to twelve weeks for Early Decision/Action. With the deadline moved to 11/8, and supporting documents coming in even later, it’s very hard to absorb the loss of 25% of your work cycle and keep the integrity of the process. Everyone wants their decisions, but everyone wants their application submission to get a full holistic review. Also keep in mind the admissions committee has transfer applications waiting as soon as the ED process is complete. They want to get you answers as well! :)

Best of luck!!

@blueiguana You rock! So glad to have experienced members on the board to give us newbies guidance/perspective on all of this.

“we’re in that stag that’s a mix of all stages. We’re reviewing newly completed applicants, finalizing decisions, printing letters, preparing emails, double checking decisions, etc. We’re definitely on the tail end but many many steps are still in progress.” -w&m
Woohoo! They’re getting close!

Thinking and hoping Friday dec 6th is the day. My daughter has been on pins and needles!

Thinking back fondly on the grin on my son’s face as he showed me his “Good Things” email from last spring. Good luck! And will be happy to answer any W&M questions either here or PM. Have one son who is a 3rd year law and one in undergrad and both my husband and I went there (although as my son’s are fond of pointing out- so many years ago that they have since invented electricity).

My daughter got her email at about 7:30pm – she is in! She is thrilled, as am I! Go Tribe!

@Carrerascott, congrats to your daughter and to you!
