Early Decision or Regular Decision?

<p>Hi, I just joined this site, because, I figured someone could help me out on this one.
My mom and I have been fighting over this for weeks now--she is determined to make me apply Early Decision to Brown U., but, I really want to apply Regular.
I love Brown a lot, and, if I got in, I would definitely want to go, but, I'm also really in love with U of Chicago and NYU. Out of the 15 schools I'm applying to, those are my top 3.</p>

<p>I realize that for more than half of the schools I'm applying to, it's a long-shot, I'm most likely going to be denied/waitlisted. I'm scared that I'm going to get in ED to Brown, but, then miraculously also get into NYU or U of Chicago.</p>

<p>My GPA is a 3.76
My SAT score is a 1930-1950 (don't remember exactly)
My ACT score is a 28 (only took it once, don't think I'm going to do it again)
My AP scores are 4,4,5 (History, Lit., Psych)
Achievements: Varsity Swim Team (3 years), cultural club president (3 years), I paint, play flute, dance, I've won academic awards before-- there are a few others like service, too.</p>

<p>What do you think? Should I just listen to my mom? Or should I risk not getting into any of those schools?</p>

<p>You should only apply to Brown ED if you are 110% certain that you want to go to that school no matter where else you get in, and that you would be able to afford attending as well. It’s totally fine if you aren’t dead-set on what school you want to go to, heck, you should see how much people change just by going through this process! Since you’re expressing interest in other schools as well, it’s probably the best for you to apply EA/RD everywhere, and then compare decisions/financial aid packages as you get them. You do get an admissions boost for applying ED, but I don’t think it’s worth it if you aren’t completely sure. Make sure to include matches/safeties in your list as well (as those schools are reaches for pretty much everyone). Unless you are leaving something extraordinary out, those stats won’t give you a chance at Brown ED or at Chicago so you really need to go back and meet with your guidance counselor to see where your efforts should be focused. In a theoretical world had you applied and gotten accepted to Brown ED, you would have withdrawn your apps to NYU and Chicago immediately and never been troubled with having the multiple acceptances.</p>
