I know that if you are accepted with the early decision plan you agree that you have to attend AU, but are you given any indication of how much financial aid you will recieve? I want to apply for early decision next year, but my biggest fear is that if I do get in, there may not be enough financial aid given and I will be stuck in a university that I can no way afford at face value. Has anyone had any experience with this or have been stuck in a similar situation?

The standard ED procedure (which I imagine AU follows) that you do not have to decide until you have your financial aid package, and then can opt out if it does not meet your financial need. The huge downside to applying ED when you have financial need is that you will be unable to compare financial aid packages from different schools. It’s a poor idea to apply ED anywhere when money is an issue.
