Hi everyone, I am a tennis player, and I am told by the coach at Pomona College that I would get into Pomona if I applied Early Decision. I liked the campus a lot, but I feel weird about not being able to apply to other schools... Should I apply ED and play tennis in college, or apply to UCs, where I won't play on the team?

Can you afford Pomona College?

yes, i do not believe I would get financial aid

So that is what you and your family has to decide ahead to pay full price or UC’s tuition. When you apply ED, you are locked in.

Not saying it’s the best decision for you, but you do realize how many people would kill for a practically guaranteed slot at Pomona, dont you?

You should try the Net Price Calculator on the Pomona website with your parents before you make this commitment.

Pomona is an amazing school. That said, ED should be used only by those who are certain that they love the school and can afford it. If you think you might regret the choice, apply via regular channels and make your decision in the spring.

You should be cautious. Coaches have almost no say in the admission decisions…I’m surprised he or she phrased it in a way that you would be guaranteed acceptance.

Pomona pretty much doesn’t do any athletic tips at all.

Second calla’s notion that if you’re not set on Pomona you should not apply ED.
