I am a little confused by Brown’s ED policy. Can apply Early Action (non-binding) to other schools like UGA and GT for safety, and still apply ED to Brown? Also, does anyone know Brown’s Acceptance rate for Early Decision??

Two years ago, you could not apply to any schools early action if you applied to Brown ED. That included state schools. You could apply to rolling admission schools.

That is always subject to change, so I would contact the admissions office next fall to see what the policy is.

Acceptance rate this year, I think, was 23 or 24%. Remember that many hooked students apply early decision (athletes, legacy), so the acceptance rate for an unhooked student may not be that much higher ED than RD.

A lot of you have the idea that Brown takes kids ED who might not get in RD and that ED is then a boost for the lower stat student. This could not be further from the truth at Brown or any top college.

ED is the round when the majority of the hooked (40% of the class) get in. And each college has a set percentage they accept ED. By the time they’ve taken all the athletes, legacies, development candidates and staff kids, there is not much room left for the unhooked ED candidates. So the unhooked they take are those they know will get into HYPSM and they will probably lose if they defer. Many believe it may well be a disadvantage to apply ED for that reason.

This is not the case for less competitive schools that are worried about yield and are happy to take 50% plus ED.

The only advantage to the unhooked at the ivies is knowing early.
