If I apply Early Decision and I get accepted, but I cannot afford it because the financial aid is too small, I don’t have to still go there do I?

I wish money weren’t a factor :[

i guess it would be nice to know where i am headed by december, but i guess it would also be nice to have a choice. but then i really like Brown and i want to get into PLME. and it seems like i might have a better chance by doing early decision? MAN I DONT KNOW i think way too much

From what others have talked about on past threads (it might not´ve been in Brown´s however), I gather that you don´t really have to go to a school even if you apply early decision due to money issues. But I´ve also heard that that´s kind of contingent upon your attending your state school. Then again, when you sign your early decision contract, it´s kind of stated that you know the conditions around early decision and thus is implied that you have already looked into finances.

You can always call Brown and ask. Just don´t let them know your identity. :)

I applied to Brown ED and had similar concerns. All the colleges I talked to said that you wouldn't be penalized for backing out if you couldn't afford the tuition w/ the financial aid package they gave you (although it was unclear whether this might affect your chances of admission at other schools in the regular round). As far as Brown specifically, I was accepted early decision with a financial aid package that was less then superb. However, after my parents met with the financial aid people, explained our extenuating circumstances, and so forth, they revised the package to meet our needs. Bottom line -- I would say don't let money hold you back from applying ED if you really love Brown.
