<p>marny: seems like details of the SU situation are murky, but SU gives packages right after admission, not in March/April…possible that this family’s situation changed between Dec and March, not that they didn’t know about the FA till then…glad though that she was able to land in Bingotown and is happy!!!</p>

<p>the OP is referring to merit aid, but it sounds like this ED situation is one in which ED should not have been used if the family was depending on the merit aid being a certain amount; that is even a riskier bet than FA IMO</p>

<p>Yes, an old thread, but here is the ED financial aid rule for Common App schools:

<p>If you are not offered enough aid to support attendance (and it’s solely the family’s decision), you tell the school thanks but no thanks and apply ED2 or RD elsewhere.</p>
