<p>the OP is referring to merit aid, but it sounds like this ED situation is one in which ED should not have been used if the family was depending on the merit aid being a certain amount; that is even a riskier bet than FA IMO</p>

<p>If you are not offered enough aid to support attendance (and it’s solely the family’s decision), you tell the school thanks but no thanks and apply ED2 or RD elsewhere.</p>
