If you're applying early decision to a school, are you allowed to apply early action to others?

Currently, I have one early decision and 4 or 5 early actions that I want to apply to.

In general, yes. You just have to withdraw or reject those other applications if you’re admitted to the ED school.

However, some schools (Brown is the only one that comes to mind, and it might actually be the only one) specifically say you can’t do that.

Thanks for the info. Not specifically planning to apply to Brown though.

If you need financial aid, Early Decision is not a good way to go because you won’t be able to compare financial aid packages. You will be stuck with whatever the ED school comes up with for you.

Early Action, Regular Decision, and Rolling Admissions are all OK if you need aid. You will get your admissions decisions at different times, but all of the aid offers will come in April, and you will be able to choose the one that is best for you.

Does anyone know if, specifically, UPenn allow other EAs if doing ED for Penn?

…bump…

Yes, it’s fine to do ED at Penn and regular EA at other schools. You just can’t do Single Choice Early Action at other schools as they restrict you from doing ED elsewhere. Yale is an example of an SCEA school.
